The factors involved in deciding whether to buy a PC or a Mac mostly revolve around software and price. Mac users prefer Apple hardware because of its ease of use and powerful software tools. PC users prefer PC hardware because of its compatibility with other systems, availability, and lower average cost. It used to be that you could get a bigger bang for your buck by buying a PC system. However, now if you price every part out piece by piece, you'll discover that it's about even. So, the real issue is the software environment. There are advocates on both sides. But, it really comes down to a matter of preference. We actually prefer having access to both platforms in one form or another, and we recommend that you just get what you're most comfortable with. The most significant recommendation we can make is to get at least 2GB of RAM installed in any performance computer you buy!
